Karnataka Administrative Service ( KAS )

Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS), the civil service of Karnataka State, is conducted by Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) every year to recruit suitable candidates for the service posts at the state or district level. People keen on getting government jobs in Karnataka are suitable to apply.

Educational Qualification

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree from recognized university or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Government of India

Age Limits

The minimum age to apply is 21 years while the maximum age would be 35 years on the date the candidate applies for the exam.

Age limits for some categorized candidates are as follows:

The upper age limit for a candidate belonging to SC/ST category will be extended by 5 years that is, 40.
The upper age limit will be extended by 3 years for a candidate belonging to the Other Backward Class category, that is 38.
For Physically Handicapped or Widow Candidate, the upper age limit shall be increased by 10 years.
In the case of a candidate who is an ex-serviceman, the upper age limit will be increased by the number of years of service delivered by him in the Armed forces of the Union.

Number of Attempts

For candidates in the General category, a maximum of 5 attempts is allowed.

For candidates in the OBC category, two additional attempts are available, thus making their total allowed attempts 7

For candidates belonging to SC/ST/Cat-1 category, Allowed infinite attempts till age 40.

PAPER - I

200 Marks

  • National and International Current Importance.
  • Humanities – History of India – Emphasis shall be on broad general understanding of the subject in its social, economic, cultural and political aspects with a focus on Indian National movement with special emphasis of Karnataka.
  • World Geography and Geography of India with a focus on Karnataka
  • Indian Polity and economy, including the country’s political system rural development, planning and economic reforms in India – sustainable development, poverty alleviation, demographics, social sector initiatives etc., related to India.

PAPER - II

200 Marks

  • Current Events of state importance and important state government programs.
  • General Science and Technology, Environment and Ecology – contemporary developments in science and technology, and their implication including matters of everyday observation & experience, as may be expected of a well, educated person who has not made a special study of my scientific discipline general issues of Health, environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change that do not require subject specialization.
  • General Mental Ability includes Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, and Analytical ability, Decision-making, problem-solving, Basic innumeracy (numbers and their relations, the order of magnitude, etc.,) and data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc., (Class X / SSLC level).
